Isaac Clark, Jr., CFSP, is a native of Cuthbert, Georgia. He is the seventh of thirteen children born to the late Mr. Ike Clark and Mrs. Essie Groom Clark. He graduated from Randolph County Training School in 1961. In 1965, he enlisted in the U. S. Army for three years and served in Vietnam in 1966. Among his assignments, he worked in Finance and Personnel Administration and as a Military Escort of deceased soldiers his last six months of service.
After completing his tour in the military, Isaac enrolled at Albany State College, Albany, Georgia and received a degree in Business Administration in 1971 and received his MBA degree in Accounting from Atlanta University in 1973.
Upon graduating from Atlanta University, Isaac worked as a Senior Accountant in the public accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Company, Business Manager and Director of Fiscal Affairs of Atlanta University, Controller of Empire Investment Enterprises and the Director of Finance of The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change.
On September 11, 1978, Isaac purchased Grissom Funeral Home from the founder, Rev. Thomas P. Grissom, Sr. The name was later changed to Grissom-Eastlake Funeral Home. On January 1, 2008, the name was changed to Grissom-Clark Funeral Home.
Isaac’s desire to provide a higher degree of service and commitment to the families and community inspired him to earn his Associate in Science degree from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science. In 1995, he received his Embalmer and Funeral Director’s licenses. He is also a licensed insurance agent.
Isaac is very involved in the funeral industry on district, state and national levels: Ninth District of the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association (Financial Secretary since 1998, Chairperson of the Budget Committee, member of the Banquet Committee); Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association (Executive Board, Co-Chair of Budget and Finance Committee); National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association (Rules and Credentials Committee, Administration and Finance Committee, Audit Committee, attends Annual Conventions and House of Representatives Meetings); National Funeral Directors Association (attends Annual Conventions, 2005 volunteered for 30 days in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina for rescue/recovery); Georgia Funeral Directors Association; Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity, Alpha Omega Chapter (Treasurer, Chairperson of Budget Committee); and the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice where he earned his Certified Funeral Service Practitioners’ (CFSP) Designation.
He is a member of Central United Methodist Church (Finance Committee, Chairperson of the Audit Committee, Senior Usher Board, Early Learning Center Board of Directors, Men’s Usher Board); East Lake Family YMCA (Board of Directors); Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Eta Omega Chapter, (Chair of Budget and Finance, Omega Housing Board, Superior Service Award, 2003); Joymen Club of Atlanta (Treasurer); NAACP.
A devoted family man, Isaac is married to Valeria St. Cyr Clark. They have five children, Michael, Karen, Shawnne, Tara, and Eric and twelve grandchildren.
